Scott Landes, associate professor of sociology, has received two honors recognizing his teaching and support of students.

On April 24 he was one of 10 faculty to receive an Excellence in Graduate Education Faculty Recognition Award. Then, on Tuesday, April 29, he received a Faculty and Staff Award from the University’s Center for Disability Resources.

The Excellence in Graduate Education award is given annually by the Graduate School. It honors professors who have had a significant impact on graduate education through teaching, service and research or creative activities.

“We know that talented faculty members are the cornerstone of a quality graduate education,” says Peter Vanable, dean of the Graduate School. “This awards program gives us an opportunity to hear directly from our students, as well as from faculty, staff and alumni, about which professors have had a significant positive influence on their studies. We are delighted to recognize these ten individuals for their dedication and contributions to the University.”

Also given annually, faculty and staff awards are presented by the Center for Disability Resources to recognize those who have gone above and beyond for students to support their empowerment and inclusion and in celebration of disability as diversity. Honorees are nominated by students.

Landes is a faculty associate in the Aging Studies Institute and a research affiliate in the Center for Aging and Policy Studies and the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion and Population Health. He is also an O’Hanley Faculty Scholar, which recognizes outstanding teaching, scholarship, service and success with external grant support. His areas of expertise are in sociology of disability, medical sociology, aging and the life course, and military veterans.
